Yesterday was my first big journey, travelling from Malaga to Vinuela over the Sierra de Malaga. I had not found an off road route so used the road, and was very glad I did. The climb to the pass was 900m and then I had to go through another valley system so the total climb for the day was 1700m, and the distance 50km. (Sorry for doing everything in metric but it’s what my satnav does). The road was a nice gentle 8% (I know ‘cos it was written on the road surface) but the climb out of the second valley was murder. Off road and very steep – I had too push the bike and trailer for 300m that was too steep to ride.

So I have taken today off and relaxed, washed some clothes and visited Vinuela village. There isn’t a lot in Vinuela – one bar, one restaurant, one shop and a post office. No bike shop. It was very picturesque, but they don’t look after the nice little river that was running through it – it was full of rubbish. Someone needs to clean it out.

This is my blog of my trip around Spain, off road, on my mountain bike. The story is told in full in my book "Three Wheels on my Bicycle", available on Amazon in Kindle or hardback.
