After Niguelas I returned to Malaga to take a weekend of down hill withSwitch-backs.com. I needed to find a way to get back there, but purely by chance I mentioned my probem to Queta at the B&B and she said her husband Manuel was going to Malaga and would give me a lift. He managedContinue reading “12th April 2013”

11th April 2013
This short route is a lovely ride through orchards of oranges and lemons. In one place I could see orchards, a wind farm and snow capped peaks all at once. The day started with a ride along some single-track, with a drop to the right of anything between 2 and 50m. Have a look atContinue reading “11th April 2013”
9th April 2013
I awoke early in my wild camp in Jayaena, with the bird song and sunrise. I had a (very) quick wash in the cold mountain stream, brewed up some tea, and broke camp by 9.30. The days cycling was gorgeous again; warm sunshine, cool air and pine forests. I saw almost no-one all day..just oneContinue reading “9th April 2013”

It’s taken me so long to sort out the damned IT (photos, video, gpx) that I have run out of time to write anything today. Will do later… OK, now it’s later. I have checked my satnav and reviewed the time travelling, and it is remarkably similar to the time spent messing with gadgets andContinue reading “8th April 2013”

Yesterday I had another big climb, coming out from Vinuela to Alhama de Granada. The journey was about 40 kilometres and 1800 m of climb, and sadly there was no downhill at the end because the the end point is up on the Spanish Mesa. I am now in Alhama de Granada, which is aContinue reading “6th April 2013”

Yesterday was my first big journey, travelling from Malaga to Vinuela over the Sierra de Malaga. I had not found an off road route so used the road, and was very glad I did. The climb to the pass was 900m and then I had to go through another valley system so the total climbContinue reading “4th April 2013”

Today was interesting. I spent 6 hours investigating the hills north of Malaga, trying to find an off-road route that went over them and to the north. However, despite there being a maze of tracks and trails, none of them lead anywhere. They all ended in someone’s expensive residence with a gate across. I thinkContinue reading “1st April 2013”
31st March 2013
At last all those months of planning are over. I arrived in Malaga yesterday, and have reassembled my bike and trailer today. I have also had time to made a couple of brief forays, one into the city and another into the hills to the north. Malaga is a very beautiful city, with a largeContinue reading “31st March 2013”

Spain seems to have been suffering from the same cold Spring we have had in the UK (though obviously warmer than here). But at last the forecasts are looking good, and I have agreed a departure date with my long suffering wife. My ticket is booked for the Sat 30th March.
24th January 2013
My planning is almost complete now – I have all the kit I need, I’ve learned how to use all the technology and I know where I’m going (well, roughly anyway). I now just need too wait for the Sierra Nevada to turn warm enough and I’m off. Yes, I know one can bike inContinue reading “24th January 2013”
