16th May 2013

Not a good day today – still feeling a bit ill, and it’s cold – around 12 degrees. I guess the weather that brought snow to the UK has come down here! There is a cold wind blowing out of the north so it’ll be against me all day. And although it’s sunny now rain is forecast for the afternoon. Nevertheless, rather then whimp out and stick to the tarmac, I head off to the east a bit into some low hills that look quite nice. Turns out to be really worth it – the area is gorgeous and reminds me of the UK again. I guess it gets a little more rain than the plain, so instead of olives and vines they are growing wheat.

I get back onto the road after lunch and storm clouds start to form. I decide to stay on the road and try to out-run them. I get a quick drenching, but then hit a big long down-hill and accelerate away from them (and get dried in the process)! This was taken once I was clear.

n my haste to avoid the storm I somehow ended up on an autovia where bikes were not allowed. A nice chap in a van came along and escorted me off – but by then I was outside Cofrentes so I glided down the last of the hill to my hotel. The hotel is very reasonable – free wifi, clean and all for 30 euros. And it has this: a square bath!!

I wonder if many of their guests come without legs?

This is my blog of my trip around Spain, off road, on my mountain bike. The story is told in full in my book "Three Wheels on my Bicycle", available on Amazon in Kindle or hardback.
