I am going home this week to see my family in the UK, so am starting to head east to Vallencia. If you were recreating this part of my trip you probably would not do this part, but rather head north from Cofrentes. The route is a little disappointing in that it is all on tarmac – again it is through steep valleys where there are few alternatives. However it is very scenic and I had a great day. I met some road bikers as I was toiling up a valley wall; they were very impressed with what I was trying to do, but probably thought I was mad. They wizzed up the hill somewhat faster than I did.

The route spent much of the day around various reservoirs, and the views were stunning.

It was another one of those days where I thought I would be in for an easy ride because I was out of the high mountains. But I still had 6 steep climbs, 2 of them big, and accumulated over 1,200 m of ascent. In the high sierras I was averaging only a bit more at 1,800m per day. But I did manage almost 60kpm on one down-hill stretch!

This is my blog of my trip around Spain, off road, on my mountain bike. The story is told in full in my book "Three Wheels on my Bicycle", available on Amazon in Kindle or hardback.
